The second General meeting of the Alliance of Women's Legislative Initiatives will take place in the capital of Kyrgyzstan

The second General meeting of the Alliance of Women's legislative initiatives will take place in the capital of Kyrgyzstan on November 20. The information was provided by Aidai Bedelbaeva from UNDP.


As she said, the goal of the meeting is a development and an approval of the Alliance action plans and priorities for its legislative initiatives for 2009, and also a review of the Alliance activities in 2008, including key amendments to laws and regulations of the Kyrgyz Republic made by the Alliance efforts.


As the UNDP representatives say the Alliance activities will be carried out via such Working Groups as Policies and Public Administration Working Group, Economics and Access to Resources Working Group, Working Group on Prevention of Violence against Women and Human Trafficking, and Social Issues and Culture Working Group.


Extra information: the Alliance of Women's Legislative Initiatives was founded in March, 2008 aimed at strengthening the women's influence through lobbying of legislative initiatives, strengthening interactions between the state and a civil society for effective implementation of a National Gender policy. The Alliance has tasks to change the public opinion in favor of the policy of equal rights and opportunities, to introduce gender measurements into the legislative process, to promote growth in women leaders capacities, and to develop policies and strategies aimed at promotion of gender equality and their lobbying.


At present the Alliance has around 140 members from all the regions of Kyrgyzstan, including women who are Kyrgyz Parliament members and women who are Ministers. Representatives of a civil society, Kyrgyz Parliament (Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic), state bodies, international organizations and mass media will take part in the General meeting.


The Joint Project of the Kyrgyz President's Administration, Office of the Kyrgyz Government and UNDP called ‘Promoting women into civil service and politics' (supported by the Swedish Institute for Development Aid/ SIDA) and the Organization on Democratic Institutes and Human Rights, OSCE rendered support in organizing the AWLI General meeting.
